JACKSON, Miss. —A man told police he opened fire Monday on a car thief, authorities said. The owner of a vacant house in the 2700 block of Pinedale Street was checking on the property about 8 a.m. when he saw a man trying to steal his Toyota 4Runner, said Jackson Police Department spokeswoman Officer Colendula Green. "He noticed someone in the vehicle leaving and fired shots at the vehicle," Green said. The man told officer he wasn't sure if he hit the thief, who took off in the Toyota, Green said. Police were checking hospitals for anyone who may be suffering from a gunshot wound, Green said.
