JACKSON, Miss. —Two men were arrested Sunday after a gas station shootout in Jackson. Witnesses said three men shot at one another at the Promise gas station Sunday afternoon. Gas station employee Ronnie Manuel said he witnessed the shooting. “Man, it don’t make no sense,” Manuel said. “I said, ‘One of y’all gonna be in jail, the other gonna be in hell.’” Manuel said the shooting started when a black SUV drove into a parking spot, almost hitting two bystanders. “Instead of him saying, ‘My bad, I hit you,’ you just started saying other stuff that you shouldn’t be saying. So it escalated to shooting,” he said. Witnesses said no one was hurt, but one bullet went through the store window, grazed the ceiling, went through a picture frame and stopped by a box at the back of the store. Tony Lofton, the cashier behind the register during the shooting, said the incident could have been prevented easily. “All he had to do when he pulled up, he should have just apologized to the guys. ‘Man, my bad.’ And that would have been the end of it,” Lofton said. Employees said they saw police arrest two men, but the third man drove off in his SUV. It is unclear what charges the two men arrested will face. Those with information on the shooting can call Crimestoppers at 601-355-TIPS. I know a man that works maintainance at the Medical Mall. He has a 5 gallon bucket almost full of bullets he has picked up off the roof. Shootings in Jackson are a relatively common occurrence.
